A former Ontario professional engineer was fined $10,000 following a decision by the Ontario Court of Justice in Ottawa on December 3.

Michael Martin Cook of Belleville, Ontario was convicted on four counts of breaching the Professional Engineers Act.

Professional Engineers Ontario had revoked Cook’s licence in 2014 when he failed to pass required technical examinations. He had surrendered his seal, but made a duplicate and had used it on plans to erect a large covered structure for storing recycling waste.

A building official who received the building documents checked the status of the engineering licence and realized the problem.

Mr. Cook was originally licensed in 1981.
