Technical students from across Canada and the world are competing in Calgary for the 40th WorldSkills Competition being held September 1-7. The event involves 900 competitors from 51 countries, all competing in their own specialist fields, including plumbing and heating, electrical installations and industrial control. Over 50,000 students from across Canada are expected to visit the competition, being held at the Stampede Centre.

The last WorldSkills event was in Japan in 2008, where Canada won the award for achieving the overall highest score out of the competitors in all skill categories.

A platinum sponsor of the Calgary event is Autodesk, which is providing its software for the mechanical engineering Design competition.
