The Canadian Society for Civil Engineering (CSCE) presented its first Award for Excellence in Innovation in Civil Engineering in May in St. John’s, Newfoundland
Ontario-based Cast ConneX Corporation won the award for developing a pre-qualified, off-the-shelf high-strength seismic resistant bracing connector. The connectors interface with standard hollow structural section (HSS) brace structural members. Standardizing the components has allowed them to be validated through full-scale lab testing.
The connection technique was first used by Canam Group in the construction of the Sandoz Canada head office in Boucherville, Quebec.
