Thomas Mueller, president and chief executive officer of CaGBC, said on October 7: “The registration of our 5000th project is a significant milestone in the history of the CaGBC and the green building movement in Canada…. Five thousand registered projects demonstrate that the market is maturing: LEED is the standard of choice and core business for many building owners, developers and practitioners. … Our work is far from over, but the future of green building in Canada certainly looks bright.”

The third quarter of 2014 saw the following notable projects become LEED-certified:

– WaterPark Place in Toronto, which is the first project to earn LEED Platinum certification through the CaGBC’s recertification program.

– The Van Dusen Botanical Garden in Vancouver, B.C., certified LEED Platinum. As one of Vancouver’s landmarks, this new facility was built with the goal of providing a harmonious balance between the built and natural landscapes.

The Halifax Seaport Farmer’s Market in Halifax, Nova Scotia, which was certified LEED Gold. Emphasizing water efficiency, indoor air quality and solar energy, the project team hopes to see operating savings of over $100,000 per year.

– Bow Valley Square in Calgary which certified LEED Gold. Located in the downtown core, this is a downtown complex of four towers that houses office and retail space. The project refurbished the design and finishes of the interior spaces and features an innovative green roof.
