Relying on data in Canada’s Treasury Board federal real estate directory, the Toronto Star published a report on April 21 asserting that nearly 5,000 federal buildings and homes “are in serious disrepair,” even “at high risk of building system failure.”

Treasury board gathers data from 21,000 owned and leased properties and 39,500 buildings. The problematic buildings included 2,300 National Defence buildings and houses on military bases, 370 Correctional Service buildings, and offices buildings and the Parliament Buildings in the National Capital.
