Glotman Simpson, a structural engineering firm of Vancouver, has appointed two new principals. Anthony El-Araj has been with the firm for 13 years and has worked on landmark projects such as the Richmond Olympic Oval and Vancouver’s Telus Garden. Levi Stoelting has been with Glotman Simpson 12 years, working on a wide range of projects, including the seismic upgrade of Vancouver’s Hotel Georgia.

At MMM Group in Toronto, John Ruffolo has been named as the new Chairman of the Board of Directors. Ruffolo is the chief executive officer of OMERS Ventures. OMERS is the Ontario Municipal Employee Retirement System, one of Canada’s leading pension funds.

GENIVAR’s executive chairman of the board, Christopher Cole, is moving into the position of “non-executive” chairman of the board. Following the merger of Montreal-based Genivar with the U.K. company WSP in 2012, Cole was made executive chairman to “ensure a smooth integration of both companies.”

The latest move leaves Pierre Shoiry of Genivar as president and chief executive officer. Cole said: “This natural transition will ensure that the leadership team, led by Pierre Shoiry … has clear executive responsibility, while I concentrate on providing the board with strong chairmanship, governance, engagement and direction to support the sustainable growth, diversification and performance of the company.”

Dale Carter, president and CEO of DEC Engineering in Vancouver, was one of 19 people recognized by ASHRAE with an Exceptional Service Award at the association’s anual meeting in Denver on June 22-26. Other Canadians who received the same honour were K. William (“Bill”), dean of the National Research Council of Canada in Saskatoon, and George Menzies, P.Eng. of Hamilton, Ontario.
