An Urban Reality: Smart Cities

IEEE has published a feature article by Kathy Pretz (6 June 2014) on how cities around the world are adopting technologies to become more efficient. Examples include Barcelona collecting garbage via a pneumatic waste management system, Edmonton using GIS to monitor its urban park system, and Rio De Janeiro’s operations centre that integrates information systems and processes of 30 city agencies.
