Infrastructure Ontario and Metrolinx have shortlisted three teams to design, build, finance, operate and maintain the Hurontario Light Rail Transit (LRT) project.

The Hurontario LRT project includes:

  • 20 kilometres of new dedicated rapid transit between Port Credit GO Station in Mississauga to the Gateway Terminal at Steeles Avenue in Brampton
  • 22 surface stops with connections to GO Transit’s Milton and Lakeshore West rail lines, Mississauga MiWay, Brampton Transit, and the Mississauga Transitway BRT
  • A maintenance and storage facility for the light rail vehicles at Highway 407

Construction of the project is anticipated to start in 2018, with an estimated in-service date in 2022.

The Hurontario LRT project is being delivered using IO’s Alternative Financing and Procurement (AFP) delivery model. Metrolinx has been working with the Cities of Mississauga and Brampton to integrate their transit system standards and requirements into the new LRT project.

“With teams now in place to start preparing their proposals for the Hurontario LRT, we are getting closer to launching another transit project in the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area,” said Ehren Cory, president and CEO, Infrastructure Ontario.

The request for qualifications process began in October 2016, and the three finalists include:
