Ontario’s AEC Solutions up for industry tech award

Oshawa-based company is among five companies selected as a Startup of the Year finalist for the Tech Fest Awards in the UK.
AEC Solutions, Inc. (AEC), a civil engineering software provider based in Oshawa, Ontario that specializes in contract administration and project management software, has been selected as a Startup of the Year finalist for the Tech Fest Awards in the UK.
The award ceremony will be held Thursday, September 14th at the London Hilton Bankside in London, England.
“I’m excited to showcase just how AEC has built the ‘digital pathway’ for construction contract administration, effectively bridging the gap in data flow between design and as-constructed data ready for GIS. We’re replacing old school methods like hand-written field notebooks and Microsoft Excel with a cloud-based solution that’s accessible 24/7 via the AEC Web portal and AEC Inspect mobile app,” explains Jeff Lyons, Eng. Tech, AEC’s vice president of sales & marketing and founding partner, in a company media release.
With the AEC platform, field inspectors, project managers, engineers, contractors and owners save time, money and frustration by adopting a solution that reduces reporting time, improves report accuracy and expedites payment approvals. From building a tender (bid) direct from within CAD to acquiring alignment station and offset from the geo-located inspection, AEC technology is completely integrated with infrastructure design models.
Lyons will present the AEC platform live in front of conference delegates and a panel of judges. The five Startup of the Year finalists will each have five minutes to pitch how their innovations have the potential to change the design or construction process for the better.
Delegates will then have a chance to vote for their preferred pitch. These results will be combined with the judges’ scores to determine the overall winner, to be announced at the awards ceremony.
“I’m amazed at how much we’ve accomplished over the last 18 months, and being shortlisted for Startup of the Year validates our efforts in the space,” said Chris Stebbing, P. Eng., AEC’s vice president of technology and founding partner, in the release.
Founded in 2014 by Stebbing and Lyons, the company launched its contract administration platform in 2015. Now halfway into its second construction season, AEC Solutions has engaged engineering and construction teams at WSP, Aecon, large Ontario municipalities, and more. The company says its clients have successfully delivered over $500M in infrastructure construction progress reporting and payment certification.
