Go Transit, the inter-regional transportation agency for the Greater Toronto Area, has installed a wind turbine at a station in Mississauga, Ontario. Located at the Lisgar Station on the Milton line, the turbine is 31 metres high with a rotor diameter of 15 metres. It can generate about 50 kilowatts of power in winds of around 25 mph, generating about 80% of the station's own power needs.
GENIVAR did the feasibility studies and provided construction management for the project. Lisgar Station was selected as the site because of the wind patterns and speeds at that location.
The turbine was manufactured by Entegrity Wind Systems, and incorporates fibreglass blades and a control system that were built in Prince Edward Island and drive trains built in Montreal.
