Stormwater treatment featured in new Toronto waterfront park

Work on various projects along the vast waterfront revitalization project in Toronto is proceeding, including the construction of a 240-metre long open water channel in new Sherbourne Park in the East Bayfront Area.
Waterfront Toronto is calling the 22-acre East Bayfront area, “the jewel in the waterfront crown.” The area is to have 7,000 residential units and 1.5 kilometres of water’s edge promenade within walking distance of the city’s business core.
The storm water channel is raised on the north side of the park and includes a biofiltration bed. Collected storm water will be treated with ultraviolet light in a plant located in the basement of the Sherbourne Park Pavilion. After it is treated, the water will be discharged into the channel through dramatic sculptures that rise nine metres from the ground and will eventually be released into Lake Ontario.
The prime consultant for Sherbourne Park is Phillips Farevaag Smallenberg. Also on the team are the Planning Partnership, Teeple Architects, CIS Creative Irrigation Solutions, Cobalt Engineering, URS Canada, Quinn Dressel Associates, Vincent Helton & Associates, Jill Anholt, Municipal Infrastructure Group.
