- Several engineering companies are included in the 2013 Best Managed Companies awards, announced March 25. The awards have been held by Deloitte in partnership with the National Post, CIBC, and Queen's University, since 1993.

They recognize privately owned and managed Canadian companies that have annual revenues over $10 million. Listed firms have outstanding business performance and innovative management, they invest in employees, and some showed double-digit growth and export sales growth over 40%.
There are four categories of winners.
Engineering companies among the 2013 Best Managed winners included AMEC Black & McDonald, J.L. Richards & Associates, Upside Engineering, and Vista Projects. Requalified winners this year included CBCL and Delcan. Gold Standard and Gold Requalified winners included Associated Engineering, BBA, Klohn Crippen Berger, Omicron Canada, R.V. Anderson Associates and RWDI Group. The top class —Platinum Club members — have held the status for six consecutive years. Engineering companies in this group included ADI Group, Conestoga-Rovers & Associates, Dillon Consulting, Golder Associates, and Hatch.
– Consulting Engineers of Ontario (CEO) has announced that the association has a new manager of operations and administration. Cindy Gonsalves has 22 years of management experience with associations, including 16 years at the Ontario Hot Mix Producers Association and six years at the Canadian Payroll Association. At CEO she will be responsible for financial reporting, administration, communication and events and member services. CEO, a member of ACEC-Canada, represents 200 engineering firms that have 20,000 Ontario employees.
– John O’Keefe, a principal with Toronto’s Aercoustics Engineering, has been chosen to represent Canada on a panel of worldwide experts who will gather in Berlin next week. The panel is part of the SEACEN project and will discuss ways to improve concert hall acoustics. The other panelists are from Britain, Norway, Finland, Germany and the U.S. O’Keefe has designed performing arts centres in Canada such as Vancouver’s Orpheum and Queen Elizabeth Theatre, and Toronto’s Princess of Wales Theatre.
