Company News Round-up: H.H. Angus, COWI, AMEC, CH2M HILL

H.H. Angus consulting engineers are working with Diamond Schmitt Architects and Merrick & Company to plan and design a new laboratory for Public Health Ontario. The laboratory and related support spaces will occupy 160,000 square feet on the top four floors of the Phase 2 Tower at the MaRS Discovery Centre on College Street in downtown Toronto.

COWI North America has bought Jenny Engineering Corporation in Springfield, New Jersey. Jenny has 30 people and is an internationally recognized tunnel engineering firm. COWI now has five companies and 1,000 employees in North America, including Buckland & Taylor, bridge specialists of North Vancouver.

AMEC has reported 2012 revenues of 4,158 million pounds sterling, up 28% compared to 2011. The U.K.-based company has a large contingent of offices in Canada.

CH2M HILL vice president Phil Benson and structural design engineer Keith Coleman were presented with Black Engineer of the Year Awards (BEYA) on Feb. 9 during the 27th annual BEYA Science Technology, Engineer and Math (STEM) Global Competitiveness Conference held in Washington, DC. Benson is vice-president and global operations lead for CH2M HILL's Water Business Group’s Industrial, Energy and Mining Platform based in Washington, DC. He oversees operations in the US, Canada, Asia, Europe, South America, Australia and the Middle East. Coleman, a structural design engineer with the Government Facilities and Infrastructure Architectural and Engineering Design Group in the CH2M HILL Atlanta office, was recognized with the BEYA Technical Sales and Marketing Award for his ability to combine technical expertise with marketing skills in a high-level position, not only selling cutting-edge technology, but also participating in development of product lines and marketing plans on a national and international scale.

In 2008 Coleman established the Otis Christian Scholarship at his hometown high school as a need-based academic scholarship for minority students.
