Company and People News Round-Up: CBCL, Smith + Andersen, LRI, Morrison Hershfield

CBCL was selected as one of Nova Scotia’s Top 15 Employers for 2015. This is the fifth consecutive year that the firm has made the list.

Smith + Andersen are the mechanical and electrical consultants for the Plenary Health Care Partnerships design-build-finance and maintain team that is developing the Humber River Hospital in Toronto. The firm is also the consultant for the communications and automation technology aspects of the project. Due for completion next year, the 11-storey, 1,830,000-sf acute care hospital in North Toronto will be the first fully digital hospital in North America. Architect is HDR/C.F. Moller; construction is by PCL.

David Sylvester, former chair and vice-president of the Canadian Fire Alarm Association and a well-known and loved figure in the Toronto area fire protection community passed away in November. He was with Leber Rubes (LRI) in the early 2000s, then with Morrison Hershfield in the mid 2000s where he designed “pick-and-place” fire alarm devices that could be used in real time for reviewing a building. For that work he received the 2010 Carson F. Morrison Award of Excellence for Innovation. He also developed the CFAA Codes and Standards Online Course. For the past two years he was with the Mircom Group of Companies as director of research and industry affairs. He left his wife Lucy and two young daughters.
