CH2M HILL recently sent a team of volunteers to Panama to work with an organization called Bridges to Prosperity. Reece Bishop, a young engineer from the company’s Calgary office, was named project manager for the task of building a 45-metre pedestrian suspension bridge in nine days.
Located in La Conga, the bridge enables a community of 200 to reach health clinics and schools. They can also visit local markets and catch transportation to jobs elsewhere. It is one of two long-span cable pedestrian bridges that CH2M has funded through a grant of US $50,000 to Bridges to Prosperity.
The team went out in June to complete the project. There were 11 people from the company’s offices in Australia, UAE, U.K., the U.S. and Canada.
