REVIT Worksets

The Autodesk Revit platform for Building Information Modeling is an architectural, structural, and systems design and documentation program. Building information modeling (BIM) incorporates the production of construction documents, performance predictions, cost-estimating and construction planning. The model can eventually be used for managing and operating the facility.

In using Revit, projects can be subdivided enabling multiple users to work on a project simultaneously. Since Revit projects link all parts of a building design (architecture, structure, mechanical/electrical/plumbing) parametrically, Local Worksets can be defined to link to the central file.

Working with Local Worksets Files

* Be selective! Limit the number of Worksets in use to speed up opening and saving.

* Close hidden windows before saving to minimize retrieval time on next opening.

* Restart Revit before performing memory-intensive operations, such as printing an entire document set.

Saving to the Central File

* Avoid simultaneous updates of the central file so as not to overload the network.

* Avoid reloading when saving to the central file by using the Reload Latest option.

* Free memory by periodically saving to the central project using the Compact File option.

* Close major Worksets to release virtual memory and avoid errors on saving.

Requesting Edits

* Use instant messaging to communicate which elements are being worked on and to request edits quickly.

* Save time requesting edits by enabling elements, not Worksets. You can borrow unowned elements without user intervention.
