For the first time, the American Society of Civil Engineers concrete canoe competition will take place in Canada. Civil engineering students from the U.S. and Canada will race in the “America’s Cup of Civil Engineering” on June 19-21 in Montreal. The host is the Ecole de technologie superieure of the University of Quebec in Montreal. The racing will take place in Parc Jean-Drapeau.
More than 400 students from 20 universities will take part in the competition, which is run by the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). The entrants are winners from 18 regional competitions.
Scoring is based not just on the canoe’s performance in the water, but also on its engineering design and how well the students present the technical information.
The actual races include men’s and women’s slalom/endurance races, and co-ed sprint races.
This year’s event in June will be the 21st Annual National Concrete Canoe competition.
