Hatch Group consulting engineers of Mississauga, Ontario, has bought an Australian company, BHP Engineering. The purchased company has 900 employees and offices throughout Australia as well as in southeast Asia. Its key services include project and construction management, mining, power, oil and gas and infrastructure.

Hatch also recently donated $1 million to the University of Toronto at Mississauga to create the Hatch Chair in Technology and Management. The university will match the donation with $2 million. The chair is meant to help students in information and communications technology acquire business skills.

Morrison Hershfield and Maxim Engineering have amalgamated in Alberta to become Maxim Morrison Hershfield Ltd. Jim Warren, P.Eng. of Calgary is president of the new organization which maintains offices in both Calgary and Edmonton.

Genivar Inc. of Montreal has acquired two consulting engineering firms in Quebec: Brissette Samson & Associs of Montreal and Raymond Desmarais & Associs of Gatineau. The former specializes in petroleum engineering, the latter in buildings. An engineering-construction company, Genivar now has 11 offices across Quebec. It says it “plans to make more acquisitions, particularly of firms with complementary expertise.”
