ACEC-BC Event: Managing Quality in a Professional Services Environment

December 03, 2015
The Terminal City Club, 837 West Hastings Street, Vancouver

“Quality” can be a handy catch phrase easily bandied about yet often not really understood in the context of the delivery of our engineering services. Yet, technically quality is the foundation of our profession and we all want to ensure we have strong positive reputations for this.

In today’s environment of rapidly changing landscape of consultants and increasingly complex and large project delivery, ensuring the provision of quality technical services in a consistent and effective way is a challenge. This presentation will review the concept of the quality management system as it applies to the delivery of professional services, in particular as defined in the international standard ISO 9001:2000, and describe the experience that one ACEC-BC member firm, Buckland & Taylor | COWI, has had in using such a tool to help manage and demonstrate quality in delivering bridge design services.
