TECSULT, one of the largest consulting engineering companies in Quebec, has reached an agreement to join AECOM Technology Corporation of Los Angeles.
Based in Montreal, Tecsult has 1,100 employees located in its offices in Quebec and spread out through 45 different countries. The high-profile firm does a third of its business internationally and has won several awards for its overseas work. It specializes in areas such as dams, power production, infrastructure and land management. Last year, it won a Canadian Consulting Engineering Award last year for a project in Algeria, where the company helped to reduce hillside erosion and siltation in the country’s reservoirs. In 2005, Tecsult won an award for developing innovative procedures for assessing the environmental and social dimensions of projects for the African Development Bank.
Aecom merged with another large Canadian firm of consulting engineers three years ago, UMA of Burnaby, B.C. Then last year it bought two Ontario firms: KMK Consultants and Gartner Lee.
The transaction between Aecom and Tecsult is expected to be finalized in March. According to the agreement, Tecsult will retain its name, identity and management team for its own markets. It will be the spearhead for Aecom’s operations in Quebec. It is also intended to be Aecom’s global centre for special expertise n the area of hydroelectricity and dams.
Luc Benoit, chief executive officer of Tecsult, said in a press release: “We have long been seeking to form an alliance with a high-calibre company, where we would keep our name and corporate culture …” At the same time, Benoit said, the arrangement with Aecom will create new business opportunities for the company that will benefit all of Tecsult’s employees and open up new career opportunities in Canada and abroad.
John M. Dionisio, president and chief executive officer of Aecom, said: “Welcoming Tecsult to the Aecom family will provide both firms with outstanding global growth opportunities.”
Traded on the New York Stock Exchange, Aecom has 33,000 employees around the world in 60 countries and revenues of $4.2 billion.
