Worldwide wind engineering experts RWDI Consulting Engineers of Guelph, Ontario have a new president and chief executive officer. Michael J. Soligo, P.Eng. has been appointed to the position, after 20 years with the company.
Soligo succeeds Dr. Peter Irwin, P.Eng. who has held the position from 1999 until now. Mr. Irwin will continue as a consultant and chairman of the board at RWDI.
RWDI has done wind and microclimate engineering on numerous high profile projects throughout the world, including some of the tallest buildings such as the Petronas Towers in Kuala Lumpur, the Taipei 101 in Taiwan, and the Burj Dubai in Dubai.
Michael Soligo graduated from the University of Waterloo with a Bachelor and Master’s degree in Applied Science. He joined RWDI in 1988 and became a principal in 1994.
Peter Buckland, P.Eng. of Buckland & Taylor in Vancouver has been made a member of the Order of Canada. He was given the award for a lifetime of distinguished service to bridge engineering. In 1972, he co-founded Buckland & Taylor, which became one of the world’s leading bridge engineering companies. His career includes work on many large bridges, including the reconstruction of the Lions’ Gate Bridge in Vancouver (winner of a Schreyer Award in 2002), seismic upgrading of the Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and the Shaikh Zayed Bridge in Abu Dhabi.
