The Ottawa International Airport Authority is going ahead with a $95 million program to extend its terminal building.
The expansion will add 12 gates, seven passenger bridges and more than 7,000 square metres of holdroom space to the existing terminal, which was opened in 2003.
The addition is being designed by a joint venture of McFarlane Green Architecture & Design with J.L. Richards and Associates, consulting engineers. J.L. Richards are doing the structural, mechanical and electrical engineering.
The building extension will add three levels of space, including retail areas and a new lounge, accommodating both domestic and international travellers. The terminal is a mostly glass structure, but there are plans to incorporate as a special feature into the new building some B.C. fir timbers from a WWII hangar at the airport.
The expansion is expected to be completed in 2008.
