UMA and AECOM have merged with Cansult Limited, a company based in Markham, Ontario that has extensive operations in the Middle East.
In Markham, Cansult has approximately 35 people focused on transportation, buildings, infrastructure and project management. It is an employee-owned consulting engineering and project management firm. In the Middle East, Cansul’s operations consist of approximately 650 employees. These have merged with another AECOM company, Maunsell, to form a new company, called Cansult Maunsell.
UMA has its headquarters in Vancouver. It has been in business for more than 95 years and has approximately 1,000 staff in 18 offices across Canada. It is part of the international AECOM family of companies.
The acquisition of Cansult was effective on October 1. In making the announcement, Jim Stewart, president and CEO of UMA, said: “This merger gives clients the best of both our worlds — [a] strong Canadian presence and global expertise based here at home.”
Lorne Atkinson, chairman of Cansult, said: “Our staff has worked on projects in over 40 countries…. We are proud of our impressive record of successfully completed projects, focusing on our clients’ interests, and completing work on time and within budget. We look forward to carrying on this tradition of excellence with UMA.”
