On Friday, March 28, the Canadian Institute of Plumbing & Heating (CIPH) turned the sod for the 11th home they will construct for Habitat for Humanity in the Niagara region. The house is at the corner of Portage Road and Church’s Lane in Niagara Falls.
Constructed largely by CIPH volunteers, the house is scheduled to be completed and dedicated at the CIPH annual convention.
Habitat for Humanity is an international organization that builds home for those in need and sells them to families at interest-free mortgages. The families themselves have to do 500 hours of “sweat equity” helping to build their own home.
CIPH held a fundraising program for the Habitat for Humanity program last year, and CIPH members are providing all the plumbing and hydronic heating products as well as much of the construction labour.
