British Columbia has appointed a task force to look at the Mining Industry in the province. Chaired by Ralph Sulton, a professional engineer and MLA for West Vancouver-Capilano, the task force is to make “recommendations to encourage renewal and expansion of the industry, while maintaining high environmental standards.”
The 15-member team of MLAs is to gather information over the summer and report back to Energy and Mines Minister Richard Neufeld by October. They are to make recommendations on ways to bolster the industry thorough changes in laws, changes in regulations and changes in government policies. The appointment of the task force follows Premier Gordon Campbell’s launch of an initiative called “Rocks to Riches” in May.
