A report from an affiliate organization of the National Fire Protection Association in the U.S. has found that the cost of providing residential fire sprinklers in single family homes is on average US $1.61 per sprinklered square foot. The report, “Home Fire Sprinkler Cost Assessment” was released by the Fire Protection Research Foundation. The findings showed the cost of sprinkler systems to a home builder ranged from $0.38 to $3.66 per sprinklered square foot. The cost includes everything from design to installation and permits.
The case studies included nine from the U.S., and one in Pitt Meadows, B.C.
Gary Keith of NFPA pointed out: “More than 8 in 10 fire deaths occur in homes, yet the likelihood of someone dying in a home fire is cut in half when sprinklers are present.”
