The U.S. Green Building Council, the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (ASHRA) and the Illuminating Engineering Society of North America (IESNA) have agreed to co-sponsor a new minimum standard for high performance green buildings.
The proposed standard 189, Standard for the Design of High-Performance Green Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings, will use the USGBC Leed Green Building Rating System as a key resource. The proposed standard is for completion in 2007 and will be for new commercial buildings and major renovation projects. It will address sites, water use, energy efficiency, materials and indoor air quality.
