Alberta has decided to adopt the environmental LEED Silver Standard in the design of any new government buildings. Four provincial park buildings and the Calgary Courts Centre are already being constructed according to the standard. LEED-certified buildings can cost up to 5% more to build but consumes up to 45% less energy.
