About 1,000 residences in Halifax, Nova Scotia will be heating their hot water with solar power, thanks to a program approved December 11 by the Halifax Regional Council.
The $8.1-million Solar City pilot program is using an innovative financing mechanism similar to a local improvement charge to encourage people to use the systems. The solar equipment is made in the province.
The Province of Nova Scotia is helping to initiate the program by providing legislative amendments and $1.25 million.
The Halifax Regional Municipality will be holding open house sessions in January and February on the program. Click here. www.halifax.ca/solarcity
