Quebec consulting engineering companies celebrate Grand Prix

The Association of Consulting Engineers of Quebec/l’association des ingenieurs-conseils du Quebec (AICQ) celebrated the winners of its Leonard 2010 Grand Prix du Genie-Conseil Quebec on March 25.

The awards dinner was held at the Montreal Science Centre. The theme was “Le genie-conseil quebecois: au premier plan d’une vision durable.” In attendance was M. Clement Gignac, Quebec’s Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export.

Congratulations to the following firms for their winning projects in different categories:

Buildings, Mechanical-Electrical — Pageau Morel, for “Abondance Montreal – Le Soleil.” The project is an urban triplex building that uses zero net energy.

Buildings, Structure — Cegertec Experts-Conseils inc. for a quayside visitor centre in la Baie, Saguenay, “Construction du batiment d’acceuil du port d’escale du quai A.-Lepage a la Baie, Saguenay.”

Energy — RSW inc. for the Ashlu Creek (49.9 MW) hydroelectric project in Squamish, B.C.

Environment — Les Consultants S.M./Teknika HBA for the Restoration of Site 1, Eustis mining complex in Estrie.

Project or Construction Management — CIMA+ for the University of Sherbrooke’s Longueuil campus.

Industry — RSW inc. (RSW-Beroma) for the Underground concentrator plant for a gold mine in Abitibi.

Transport Infrastructure — SNC-Lavalin inc. for the Baggage handling system for the transborder departure section at Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport, Montreal.

Urban Infrastructure — Les Consultants LBCD inc. for the Upgrade to a
wastewater treatment plant in the town of Hudson.

International — Studies and surveillance of work at the Boussiaba dam, Algeria.

Consulting Engineering — Yan Ferron of Pageau Morel for the modernisation of the Montreal Buanderie centrale.

Telecommunications and New Technologies — BBA inc. for a Monitoring system of electrical N=networks for Nuvolt Corporation. The project is a joint research and development project for a system to identify and analyze failures on an electrical network, and to provide solutions to operators.

Visionary Prize — Stavibel inc. for the Caserne des pompiers (fire fighter barracks) in Senneterre.

The chair of this year’s AICQ Leonard awards, which are now in their eighth year, was Mme. Isabelle Courville, president of Hydro-Quebec TransEnergie.
