The Stage 1 deadline for the 2012 Canadian Consulting Engineering Awards is coming up – Tuesday, March 27.

This year the number of awards of excellence has been increased to 12 – so there’s more chance of finding success.

Now in their 44th year, the awards are the most prestigious honours recognizing consulting engineering in Canada. They are a joint program of the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC) and Canadian Consulting Engineer magazine. Winning projects are selected based on high quality engineering, imagination and innovation.

The March 27 deadline represents Stage 1 in the entry process. A Notice of Intention to Enter plus $300.00 entry fee is required at this stage. To download the form and for more information, click here.

The Stage 2 deadline is Tuesday, May 8.

Schreyer Award

The highest honour each year is the Schreyer Award. It is presented to the project the best demonstrates technical excellence and innovation by a consulting engineering firm. Past winners include such national icons as the Confederation Bridge in P.E.I., the Canada Line in Vancouver, the retractable roof over the Skydome, and the CN Tower in Toronto.

Tree for Life Award

This award was inaugurated in 2008 and is given annually to a project that demonstrates outstanding environmental stewardship. Past winners include the Pine Creek Wastewater Treatment Plant in Calgary and Enermodal’s office in Kitchener, “A Grander View.” This award is chosen from projects entered in all categories.

Awards of Excellence (increased this year!)

Up to 12 Awards of Excellence will be given at the judges’ discretion. These are selected from all categories.

NOTE: These national awards are held independently of the provincial awards programs for consulting engineers and have different judging criteria.
