Acquisitions etcetera: WSP, Dessau, JMP, AMEC Foster Wheeler

WSP Global of Montreal has acquired the Colombian subsidiary of another Montreal company, Dessau. (The announcement follows another in September by Stantec that it is acquiring the Canadian operations of Dessau. That transaction is due to be finalized this first quarter of 2015.)

Dessau CEI S.A.S. in Colombia has 415 employees based in Bogota and is active in the transportation and oil and gas sectors. It has been involved in many large projects, including dams, transportation plans for Bogota, and the Bogota-Villavicencio Highway which won a 2010 national engineering award. In the oil and gas sector the firm supervised construction of the biggest part of the oil pipeline system in Colombia for Ecopetrol.

Ali Ettehadieh, managing director of South America and the Caribbean for WSP, said: “Now that we have a strong presence in Colombia and a broader expertise, we would like to leverage that to pursue the next phase of our growth in South America.

JMP Engineering has opened a Quebec branch, in Montreal. Francois Carreau, who joined the company on December 1, is heading up the office. He has 25 years of experience in project control. JMP specializes in automation, controls and information systems.

AMEC Foster Wheeler has acquired Scopus Group, a Scottish surveying company that specializes in the global oil and gas industry. It employs about 200 people and has its headquarters in Aberdeen.
