Halsall Associates was the structural engineer, TMP were mechanical engineers, and Hidi Rae were the electrical engineers for WZMH Architects on the new Quinte Courthouse that opened in August in downtown Belleville, southern Ontario. The new, six-storey building, located at 15 Bridge St. West, improves access to justice for the County of Hastings by consolidating Superior Court of Justice and Ontario Court of Justice services.

The building was designed to LEED silver standard and has a 360 sq.m green roof to improve energy conservation and stormwater runoff.

At capacity, about 500 staff and visitors are expected to conduct business in the new facility every day.

Stantec was the prime consultant on a $14-million expansion and renovation of the Hôpital St. Anne in Manitoba. The hospital primarily serves a francophone population in the province’s southeast. The 17,000 sq.ft. addition includes two operating rooms, post-anesthesia care unit, cleaning-sterilizing units and family waiting rooms. The expansion increases the square footage of the 21-bed acute care facility by 60%. SMS Engineering was the mechanical-electrical engineer.

CBCL Consultants and Pomerleau are the design-builders of a new water treatment facility under construction in Corner Brook on the west coast of Newfoundland. The plant will serve the people of Corner Brook (approximately 20,000) and adjacent communities o Massey drive and Mount Moriah. It will use a process combining UV ad chlorine treatment with a dissolved air flotation process. The $49.6-million project is partially funded by the federal and provincial governments (contributing $12 million each) under the Canada Strategic Infrastructure Fund (CSIF) which supports large-scale infrastructure projects that contribute to economic and environmental sustainability.
