ASHRAE issues new Handbook on HVAC Systems

ASHRAE has published a revised version of its handbook on HVAC systems and equipment.  The newly published 2016 ASHRAE Handbook – HVAC Systems and Equipment is the first new version since 2012.

There are changes to nearly all the handbook’s chapters, and it includes major updates for thermal storage and district heating and cooling systems. Chapter 12, District Heating and Cooling, has new content from ASHRAE research project RP-1267 (the new District Heating Guide and District Cooling Guide). Chapter 51, Thermal Storage, has new content on grid reliability, renewable power integration, heat storage, emergency cooling, water treatment and commissioning.

Other updates with important updates include:

Chapter 19, Duct Construction, which has extensive changes for system leakage and air dispersion systems;

Chapter 33, Furnaces, which has updates for current technology and efficiency requirements; and

Chapter 49, Unitary Air Conditioners and Heat Pumps, which has new information on U.S. regional appliance efficiency standards.

Another 14 chapters are also affected.

The volume is being published in print and electronic, and in inch-pound (IP) and SI versions.
